Beijing – Swiss Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard signed a declaration to build a zero-energy building in China during a recent visit to the country. The project Swiss House – Sunlon will be built using Swiss cleantech technology.

According to a government statement, the project Swiss House – Sunlon, which will be built in Beijing, is backed by Swiss companies. It will be the first zero-energy dwelling in China and will be built using modern cleantech technology from Switzerland.

Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard signed the declaration to build the dwelling during a working visit to China, where she visited several companies in Shenzhen, which the Swiss government describes as “the Chinese equivalent of Silicon Valley”. Shenzhen is also the first metropolis in the world with a 100 per cent electrified bus fleet, and it even plans to electrify its entire taxi fleet by 2020.

Alongside her visit to China, Leuthard – who is also the environment minister – visited Hong Kong, where among others she toured an innovation and technology park that focuses on biotechnology, electronics, ICT, and environmental technologies, as well as material and precision technologies.
