Urban Planning and Design Study for the “Northern Economic Zone” of Urdorf Township (Switzerland), April 2015

Introduction:

The «Northern Economic Zone» of Urdorf township is the largest workplace area in the Limmat valley within the Western suburbs of Zurich. It has a direct access to the highway and to the future Limmat light rail train “Limmattalbahn” (LTB).  Zurich State High School “Limmattal” is also located within WRN and shall be substantially expanded in the coming years. In addition, regional hospital “Limmattal” in the Eastern part of WRN is currently being redeveloped and expanded.

WRN is currently suffering under low occupancy rates in the office sector and shows clear deficiencies in public space quality.

Above mentioned planned and ongoing projects offer several chances for a more sustainable urban transformation.

Scope: 

Preliminary conceptual studies for the «Northern Economic Zone» (WRN) of Urdorf including urban planning and design measures.
Supporting the steering committee of the local government during the planning process with several workshops. LEP Consultants AG was supported by the architectural company HelsinkiZurich.
