Doha - Qatar is to create 16 sustainable floating hotels to accommodate fans at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The sustainable structures can be moved following the event and do not require a significant water depth to operate.

There are plans to create 16 floating hotels for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Finnish company Admares has designed the hotels, which will sit on the surface of the water just 15 minutes from the new stadium off the coast of Qetaifan Island North, according to an article on inhabitat.com.

With the growing issue of the environmental impact of tourism, the structures are designed to be sustainable. Following the World Cup, they can be reused and moved to another coastal location for further events.

Each will contain 101 guest rooms, a restaurant and a lounge bar, and unlike cruise ships, will require significantly lower water depth to operate.

The Qatar stadium is also designed to be environmentally friendly, featuring an energy-saving system with solar canopies, according to the article.
