Contractor:

LEP Consultants AG

Time frame:

May - July 2011

Description:

Based on the 2009 Memorandum of Understanding of “THE SWITZERLAND – CHINA JOINT COMMISSION ON COMMERCE AND TRADE ON ESTABLISHING A WORKING GROUP ON ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND ENERGY CONSERVATION RELATED TO COMMERCIAL AND TRADE COOPERATION” different Chinese cities were recently encouraged by Chinese and Swiss government agencies to submit pre-feasibility studies for eco-industrial parks.

The Kunming Foreign Affairs Office mandated LEP in May 2011 to draft a preliminary concept study about “Sino-Swiss Cleantech Industrial Park Kunming”. Based on principles of eco-industrial parks this new cleantech park will be an important pilot project demonstrating how innovative and sustainable approaches are being used for the planning and design, construction, operation and maintenance of an unique industrial park of its kind in China and Asia. Main goals will focus on minimal carbon and waste emissions as well as on maximal use of renewable energy sources. The project will also focus on efficient interactions between Chinese and Swiss cleantech companies in order to achieve a sound stock flow balance in the industrial park. In addition this project will significantly contribute to promote Kunming as new hub in Southeast Asia.
