Park Avenue Green is a fifteen-storey, multifamily building in the Bronx with 154 apartments of low-incoming housing, including 46 units for formerly homeless people. Designed by Curtis + Ginsberg Architects, it also features a gallery and affordable artist studios on the ground floor.
The building was also built to the Passive House standard and features a highly insulated and thoroughly sealed building envelope, an extremely efficient cogeneration heating and cooling system, and a 34-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system on the roof.
According to a press release, Park Avenue Green has now been recognized by Passive House Institute US (PHIUS), making it the largest certified Passive House in North America. It also received an honorable mention recognition in the Multifamily category at the North American Passive House Conference 2019 Passive Projects Awards Ceremony.
Bright Power, an energy and water management services provider, was responsible for the PHIUS certification.
