Shenzhen – The Chinese city of Shenzhen now has in excess of 46,000 base stations for the new 5G mobile telecommunications technology standard. According to information from Shenzhen, this makes it the first city in the world to boast a full-scale 5G network.

The city administration of Shenzhen has announced that it is to launch the world’s first full-scale, city-wide 5G network, as detailed in a press release issued by the China Business Forum. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, great progress has been made recently to establish the network, with a total of 46,000 base stations installed across the city.

Shenzhen is now going one step further and driving forward the application of 5G technology. The new mobile telecommunications technology standard is set to be used in China to establish a technology-driven economy. Shenzhen has already invested the equivalent of 230 million euros in high-tech projects in which 5G is to be used. The press release explains how next generation wireless networks, medical applications, smart transport projects, high resolution videos and the industrial internet have been supported with the introduction of this technology.
