Munich – UnternehmerTUM and the City of Munich have opened the Munich Urban Colab. The smart city innovation lab is designed to develop sustainable solutions for a livable city of the future.

After a construction period of two years, the Munich Urban Colab has officially opened its doors in central Munich, according to a statement. The smart city solutions lab was initiated by the centre for innovation and startups UnternehmerTUM and the City of Munich.

The Colab provides space for startups, established companies and creatives across disciplines and sectors, who are working on sustainable solutions for a livable city of the future in collaboration with the city administration and citizens. Sustainable solutions are urgently needed to address issues of urban living, mobility and public space in light of increasing urbanisation. Such solutions have enormous economic potential, writes the statement.

Users of the Colab will benefit from UnternehmerTUM's years of experience in initiating startups, as well as access to the city administration, direct exchange with technology and business experts and dialogue with citizens. Future topics relevant for smart cities, such as construction, climate protection, sustainability and mobility, will be addressed through programs and initiatives in association with the Technical University of Munich.
