Palma de Mallorca - The capital of the Balearic island Mallorca has unveiled a proposal for four new connected green areas to oxygenate the city. The idea of the project is to connect different parts of Palma city centre via so-called ecological corridors.

The capital of Mallorca has published the latest version of the General Plan of Palma. Bringing the current plan, dated 1998, into line with the latest environmental regulations, it includes four new large green areas, writes the Majorca Daily Bulletin. The idea of the project, if approved, is to set up a network of parks or green spaces to connect the different parts of the city centre.
One of the proposed green areas is the Son Roca ecological corridor, between the Son Moix stadium and Son Ximelis. According to the article, this land is partly developable but future developments will have to respect an ecological strip. The second major proposal foresees another large linear park on the banks of the Torrent Gros. The current plan allows the construction of buildings near the torrents, but with new regulations this will be prohibited.

There’s a third natural area planned in the Vivero area and another in the Llevant area, where an ecological corridor will be created to increase the environmental value of the district with new constructions to link the parks. "With this urban planning the future developments that are made will allow us to move from isolated green areas to green areas connected between them," said general director of Urban Planning for Palma, Gabriel Horrach, as quoted in the article.
