Riyadh - Orange Business has signed a deal with Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) to design a smart city platform. The platform will integrate existing digital technologies at the business district in Riyadh, as well as using artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics to support innovative urban digital design.

Orange Business, the enterprise division of the global telecommunications company, has signed an agreement to design, create and run an end-to-end smart city platform to optimize the King Abdullah Financial District in Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. The agreement was signed with the King Abdullah Financial District Development & Management Company, writes a statement

Under the terms of the agreement, Orange Business will provide services including the Orange Smart City Platform, which covers big data, data management, data analytics and governance. It can also use AI for geolocation-based analysis of social media, as well as analyzing, collating and sharing contextual data on water supply and traffic situation awareness, among others. By integrating a digital twin, architects and engineers can use the platform to analyze real-time data to optimize building design.

Commenting on the agreement, Sahem Azzam, Senior Vice President Middle East, Africa, and Turkey, Orange Business, said: “The commissioning of the Smart City Platform is a clear signal of our commitment to elevate the already world-class district to the next level of smart city evolution – what we call the cognitive city.” He added that the collaboration will showcase “innovative urban digital design” and make a “key contribution” to the Saudi Vision 2030 economic diversification and transformation plan.

KAFD describes itself as one of the world’s most sustainable business districts. It aims to create a high-quality urban environment for businesses, residents and visitors. Orange Business has been involved in smart city projects in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East for more than 10 years. ce/em
