Seoul – The Seoul Metropolitan Government is expanding the scope of smart city trial services in the South Korean capital. In 2021, it will launch four new services, including accident prevention technology and AI-based clean bus stops.

Since 2019, the Seoul city government has studied the effect of smart city services by running trial programs in Seongdong and Yangcheon districts. The city plans to launch four new smart city services this year, according to an article from Korea Bizwire.

One of the new services is the so-called ‘Smart Right-Turn Alert’, which will be installed in front of a school in Seongdong District to prevent accidents by informing right-turning drivers when there is a pedestrian nearby.

The city government also plans to distribute GPS-embedded location tracking bands to 150 severely disabled people living in Yangcheon District, aimed at helping their families find them as quickly as possible when they are missing.

The third service is aimed at single-elderly and vulnerable families. They will be given artificial-intelligence-based speakers that provide customised information on weather and news, while comforting people who are alone.

Finally, the government is planning smart clean bus stops in two locations in Yangcheon District. Using an IoT-based self-control system, the stops can automatically adjust the level of fine dust, air sterilisation, and air cooling and heating.
