Dubai - The world’s first incubator for sustainable cities has been launched in Dubai. The research and development programme will focus on developing new solutions for climate-positive cities around the world.

The world’s first incubator for sustainable cities has been launched in Dubai. Devised by Dubai-based urban planning consultants URB, who specialise in Net Zero Sustainable Cities, it is a research and development (R&D) programme focused on developing new solutions for the sustainable cities of the future.

“The incubator will be more than a research platform. It will allow us to transfer our sustainability know-how whilst engaging with the best minds in the world, to create an innovation hub centred around sustainable cities,” explained URB CEO Baharash Bagherian in an Arabian Business article

According to the article, a sustainable city is designed to address social, environmental and economic impact through urban planning, city management and eco-friendly alternatives such as electric vehicles, bike lanes and smart waste management. The world’s leading sustainable cities include Copenhagen, Berlin, Vancouver and Cape Town. For Bagherian, the next generation of sustainable cities produce more energy and food than they consume.

Bagherian continued that the incubator will continue pushing boundaries in the field of sustainable cities. He said: “Its other aim is to discover, support and mentor the next generation of designers, empowering the best young minds whilst promoting a culture of sustainability in urban planning.”
