Bern/New York - The two networks Swissnex and Impact Hub New York Metropolitan Area have launched a program for start-ups based in Switzerland and the USA. As part of the two-part Sustainable Cities Lab, participants will develop ideas for cities of the future and take part in networking activities.

Swissnex and the Impact Hub New York Metropolitan Area are bringing Swiss and US start-ups together in a two-part program for start-ups. Within the framework of the Sustainable Cities Lab, participants will be tasked with developing and exchanging ideas aimed at combating climate change in growing cities across virtual sessions and an in-person program in New York City by October 28, 2022, further details of which can be found in a press release.

“Maintaining economic growth, while creating sustainable and livable cities for all, is one of today’s biggest global issues”, the press release states. Although cities cover just 3 percent of the world’s surface, they are responsible for more than three-quarters of global energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Therefore, Swissnex, as an initiative of the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) and part of the external network of the Federal Council (the Swiss federal government), hopes to gain new insights, greater understanding and fresh ideas for urban sustainability from the program in partnership with Impact Hub as a worldwide network committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) of the United Nations (UN).

Moreover, it is hoped that the partnership will lead to the creation of a Swiss-US network for urban technology and promote group-based learning.
