Hyundai Motor Group is showcasing its vision of cities of the future in a virtual public exhibition of its HMG Smart City reference model. The virtual exhibition, which is a collaboration between Hyundai Motor Group and HyunJoon Architects, recreates a reference model first revealed at the World Cities Summit in Singapore in August, according to a statement from the group.
The reference model is a research project that will facilitate the development of smart city solutions, writes the statement. “This sustainable future city concept creates a synergy between people and nature by using minimal space and renewable energy, and its honeycomb pattern can easily be modified according to the surrounding topography,” commented HyunJoon Yoo, Head of HyunJoon Yoo Architects.
The HMG Smart City concept has a human-centered surface layer and a functional underground layer. Buildings surround parks and forest at the center of the city and the road infrastructure is in the underground layer. To ensure carbon neutrality, the primary power source is hydrogen fuel cell generators.
The virtual exhibition also includes other city concepts that Hyundai has developed in cooperation with academics. For example, the group has examined how roof structures and advanced mobility systems may benefit from region-specific designs, and what PBV (purpose built vehicles) docking structures could look like in desert environments facing high heat and sandstorms.
