Barcelona - The Smart City Expo World Congress will hold its largest edition to date in 2023. From 7 to 9 November, more than 1,000 exhibitors and representatives from 800 cities will join the urban summit in Barcelona. Among others, Airbnb and FC Barcelona will share urban sustainability plans for the future.

The Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), the international event on cities and smart urban solutions organised by Fira de Barcelona, is holding its largest edition to date from 7 to 9 November 2023. According to an article from the platform Conference and Meeting World, the urban summit will bring together over 1,000 exhibitors and representatives from 800 cities. The participants will share their urban projects and solutions to an expected 25,000 delegates. 

Among the highlights of SCEWC are the keynotes from the co-founder of Airbnb, Nathan Blecharczyk, who will discuss the company’s future plans. Airbnb has previously announced measures to tackle over-tourism. At the expo, Blecharczyk will unveil how the company wants to work with cities and governments to support sustainable travel.

Another participant is FC Barcelona, whose representatives will explain how the football club is leading the urban transformation of its stadium’s surroundings. According to the article, the construction of the new Spotify Camp Nou “is set to catalyse a profound urban transformation in its surrounding area”. Other keynote speakers include AI-specialised lawyer Micaela Mantegna and sustainable development expert Claire O’Neill, the former UK minister for energy and clean growth.

As well as keynote speakers, there will be an exhibition space with stands from companies such as Cisco, Dell, Siemens and Smart Ports. The event will also feature pavilions from countries and cities around the world, such as Brazil, China, Germany, India, Israel, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Saudi Arabia and the USA. ce/em
