Brussels – The European Commission has released a tool for sustainable building performance reporting in an effort to encourage sustainability across the building sector.
The European Commission launched the pilot phase of Level(s),
the first EU-wide tool for sustainable building performance
reporting. It focuses on performance indicators in areas such as
greenhouse gas emissions, resource and water efficiency, as well as
health and comfort, according to a European Commission statement announcing its
release.
“Level(s) can help us develop an environment built sustainably
across Europe and support our transition to the circular economy,”
said the Commissioner for Environment, Maritime Affairs and
Fisheries, Karmenu Vella. “It marks an important step towards a
more resource-efficient and competitive construction sector in
Europe.”
Level(s) aims to provide a simple entry point for those
looking to build more sustainably by focusing on the main aspects
of a building’s performance, including greenhouse gas emissions,
resource-efficient and circular material life cycles, and
adaptation and resilience to climate change.
The test phase will last until 2019.
