Liestal BL – The Energy City Association has awarded its Energy City label to four more municipalities, bringing the total number of municipalities with this sustainable energy certification to 424.

Energy City Association has rewarded four more municipalities for their climate action and sustainable energy policies. Marsens in the canton of Fribourg, Melchnau in the canton of Bern, Aarburg in the canton of Aargau and Roggliswil in the canton of Lucerne have now all received the Energy City label.

When it comes to solar energy production, Roggliswil in particular benefits from its unique, fog-free location, and the municipality already meets more than half of its energy requirements with renewable energy. This solar potential is now to be further expanded. Aarburg for its part is currently developing an area that conforms to the requirements of the 2000-Watt Society.

Thirteen other municipalities have renewed their Energy City certification, including Nyon in the canton of Vaud. According to the Energy City Association, the municipality’s commitment to sustainable energy policy is evident in areas such as infrastructure and mobility. And with the adoption of the Nyon Energy 2017-2021 programme last November, the municipality can now develop a plan that corresponds to the federal Energy Strategy 2050, including installing nine photovoltaic systems on the roofs of public buildings.
