Markus Eggenberger,

LEP WEB VR Eggenberger

Markus Eggenberger has a broad consulting and research experience in urban, environmental and transportation planning in South East Asia (China, Vietnam, Indonesia). Working at the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC, he was responsible as programme manager at the country and project level and working on projects in the field of urban, communal and environmental planning in Eastern Europe and Vietnam. He was regional advisor on rural development in West Africa and head of the Swiss Contribution Office for Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, based in Bern.

M. Eggenberger has a MSc in Forestry and is a postgraduate in Spatial Planning, both degrees obtained from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich, and has a CAS in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) from the Zürich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).

Prof. em. Dr. Willy A. Schmid

LEP WEB VR W SchmidBroad working experience as professor for spatial planning at ETH Zurich. Prof. Schmid has extensive experience in working abroad, especially in China and other Asian countries and has published widely in related fields. His key interests are ecological and environmental planning, decision-making in the context of infrastructure and spatial development, development of rural and urban areas and development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as planning instruments.

Dr. Thomas Wagner

Dr. Thomas Wagner is former Zurich Mayor and Honorary Citizen of the Chinese cities Kunming and Dalian. He graduated at the University of Zurich in medicine and law. He was a member of the City Government of Zurich for twenty-four years. As Mayor of Zurich he initiated the relationship between Zurich and Kunming (Yunnan) as sister-cities in 1982. He was responsible for many successful pilot projects between Zurich and Kunming in the cultural, environmental and urban development sector (water distribution, water purification, public transportation, protection of historical monuments, regional planning, etc).

In 2002 he opened a consulting firm for facilitating bilateral relations between Switzerland and China in business, culture and tourism. The scope of Mr. Wagner's business activities extends to all provinces in China. Thomas Wagner was a member of the Swiss Steering Committee for the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing and the EXPO 2010 in Shanghai.

Thomas Wagner holds several important positions and titles:

  • President of the Association Switzerland - China
  • Honorary Citizen of the city of Kunming and the city of Dalian
  • "Friendship Ambassador" by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC)
  • He was also appointed as Distinguished Professor at the Tongji University (Shanghai) and as Distinguished Professor at the Kunming University (Kunming), PR China.

Diego Salmeron

CEO and Member of the Board

LEP WEB TeamCH Salmeron

Diego Salmeron as worked many years as researcher in spatial and environmental planning at ETH Zurich. His research activities focus mainly on sustainable regional and urban development, including environmental planning issues. He has a broad working experience in Asian countries such as China, Vietnam and Thailand, where he was managing and leading several training and research programs in the fields of regional and environmental planning.

Mr. Salmeron graduated in Rural Engineering at ETH Zurich (MSc ETH) and is a registered planner (REG A). He is a member of the Swiss-Chinese Association. Furthermore, Diego Salmeron is Member of the Board of Directors of Swiss Paraplegic Research (SPF).
