Cazza developed the new technique in response to market demand. “Developers kept asking us if it was possible to build a 3D printed skyscraper. This led us to begin researching how we could adapt the technologies for taller structures,” Cazza CEO Chris Kelsey told Construction Weekly Online.

According to Fernando De Los Rios, chief operating officer at Cazza, the crane printing system can be easily used with existing cranes. The printing process itself includes all major structural components required for skyscrapers, including reinforcement with steel rebar. The cranes will print specific parts of the building, while the rest of construction will be undertaken through existing methods, according to the article.

Cazza is known for its 3D printing construction system that combines mobile 3D printing robots with existing construction methods. As Construction Weekly Online explains, this makes construction processes faster, more cost-effective and environmentally friendly.

While the company has confirmed that it will build the world’s first 3D printed skyscraper in the UAE, it did not reveal the height of the structure or the commencement date. In late 2016, the Dubai government announced a collaboration with Cazza to accelerate the use of 3D printing in the country.
